Construction Notes

If you're planning on building the George Miller A-10 from the plans, the following information might save you a little time and aggravation. I'll add notes as they come to me.

First of all, there are some errors in the plans.
1. The spar slots in the wing ribs are incorrectly located from one rib to the next. When you hold all of the ribs together, the slots should form a nice straight line, or channel. Instead, they form a "V". Tank's Hangar Aircraft Modeling made corrections, so if you get your parts laser cut there, they will be correct.
2. The vertical fin ribs are drawn incorrectly in their plan views, which are used to cut the parts. They are too short is some cases. I had to remake a few. Use the view of the assembled fin to get the correct lengths of each rib.
3. All three spars of the horizontal stabilizer are drawn wrong in their plan views. They end up too short and the rib locations are wrong. Use the view of the assembled stabilizer to get the correct lengths of each spar and to mark the location of the ribs.

Landing Gear Location
The original design calls for homemade main landing gear using thick piano wire. Each strut of the gear is right next to rib number 4. I used pneumatic gear with mounting plates. I located the mounting plate between ribs 4 and 5. However, this pushed the struts outboard of rib 4 by about ½" or so. This forced me to move the wheel nacelles outboard as well such that the outer edge of each nacelle goes beyond rib 5, which is the dihedral joint in the wing. When constructing the wing, you should move both ribs number 4 inboard about ½" to compensate for the mounting plate and put the struts on the proper centerline.

Fuselage Nose
The bottom and side panels of the fuselage need to be bent upward and inward respectively to shape the nose of the fuselage. I attempted to wet and warp these panels with marginal success. I should have used kerf cuts on the inner surfaces to make the bending easier.

Incidenses
Relative to the fuselage at zero degrees:
Main wing -- Plus one degree (+1)
Horizontal stabilzer -- Minus seven degrees (-7)
Engine thrust line (nacelles) -- Plus five degrees (+5)
